Alopecia Hair Loss

It has been estimated that around 2% of the population of America are affected by Alopecia hair loss. Alopecia means hair loss and there are different types of alopecia hair loss. These types of hair loss range from a few small bald patches on the scalp to totally baldness of the scalp and the most severe is hair loss on the scalp, the body, hands, feet and eyebrows.

The condition affects all, irrespective of gender, age and race. It has been stated that it can be hereditary and it is estimated that around 18% of people who have the condition also have a family member who also suffers from alopecia areata. Although, it does not always mean that a child with Alopecia hair loss will have parents who suffered from the condition.

Alopecia hair loss is brought about by the auto immune system attacking the hair follicles and stopping them from growing. The actual disease varies from person to person, some people will see hair fallout and then it will regrow and they will never experience this again.

Some will experience hair loss and then regrowth only for the hair to fallout again in the future. Others will experience hair loss and it can be a long time before the hair regrows if it even does. Sometimes the hair that regrows will be white, however, this should go back to it's normal colour after a period of time.

As it can be seen alopecia hair loss can be unpredictable and varies from individual to individual.

At this moment in time there is no immediate cure for alopecia hair loss, although, there are various solutions and treatments available that can stimulate hair regrowth. Some people who suffer from this condition look at alternatives to medication in which to solve their hair loss. Such alternatives are hair pieces, wigs and weaves to name a few.

So what are the options open to people suffering from alopecia hair loss? Some people like to immerse themselves in the facts and information of the condition so they know what to expect and fully understand the disease and what the future holds. While other people will just take what life throws at them and carry on as normal. However, there are others who will feel that this is a catastrophic event in their lives which can lead to a very stressful state.

If you want to find out more about your condition then consult with your doctor or medical adviser who should be able to put you in contact with support groups or forums in your area.
